As the kids are in a British school, they have a "house" system whereby all the students belong to a different house. When a student does something well or something praiseworthy, he is be awarded housepoints which go to benefit the whole group. There are other sporting events etc. for friendly competition. Michael came home one day last week and announced that he wanted to run for house captain. Great! But the election was the next day. His competitors had already put up posters around the school. Well, this didn't deter Michael. He went straight to the computer and printed out this poster which he made 10 copies of and posted them around the school on the morning of the election. He prepared his speech and that was that. On the drive to school, I gently reminded Michael that it wasn't so important to win but that I was already impressed and proud of his confidence and courage to put himself out there. We agreed that he would be a good sport and just to try and learn from this experience regardless of the outcome. Well, it turns out that he won the most votes (which Jessica thinks came from all the girls;-)) to become the new house captain for the Namsan Dragons and we are all very proud of his efforts. Go Namsan Dragons!!
Congratulations, Michael! We are so very proud and impressed with your courage and initiative. You will be a great president and the students are lucky to have you. Nothing can be gained if you don't try. There will be losses, sometime more than wins, but those great accomplishments would never have been realized without courage and the willingness to try. I admire that about you. We love you and are extremely proud of you!
