May 5th is Children's Day in Korea. As Jessica does not consider herself to be a child any longer she did not feel the need to stick around to celebrate with the family. Jessica went off to a friend's house and the rest of us headed to the book store. Michael got the last book of the Percy Jackson series along with some other interesting new titles and Stephanie decided that she needed some work books to improve her mathematical and language skills. Then we headed to The Place for some pasta and salad. As we passed the Sejong Culture Centre, we noticed a photo exhibit on display so decided to pop in. We saw some fantastic photos by Steve McCurry, well known for his photos in National Geographic. On the way back to the car afterwards, we passed a violin shop. We decided to check it out as Stephanie has been asking for one for a long time. We were surprised to find that they had one for her size. Of course I knew then that I would not be able to leave the store in peace without making the purchase. Stephanie was elated and wore the case on her back even after we got home. Seungbum's family stopped by as they were in the neighbourhood and joined us for the rest of the day. Later in the afternoon Stephanie gave us a wonderful first performance as you can see in the photos. It was evident that she had absorbed much from watching Michael play as she managed to mimick many of the techniques that Michael is learning. The boys decided that they needed to expend some physical energy so the packed up the car with baseball gear and Stephanie's bike and headed to Yonsei University. Michael and Seungbum played baseball, basketball and finally ran 10 laps around the 400 m track. Needless to say we were all famished and ended the day with a meal of Pyongyang style naengmyun. Whew! Happy Kid's day!
