"Stephanie, do you think you could go to a Korean school when you finish kindergarten? "
Stephanie: "but I am going to a Korean school already!"
Me: " No, that's a kindergarten. In about a year and a half you will have to go to a school just like Michael and Jessica. But instead of going to their English school, would you be okay going to a regular Korean school?"
Steph: "Why?"
"Because it's just too expensive to send all of you to that school. "
"How many moneys do you have?"
"Not very much..."
"Hmmm...three?"
"uh...yeah."
"Well, why don't you just go and buy some at the bank?"
"Oh sweety, the bank doesn't just give you money for free."
And then that look...
I think I heard my heart breaking...CRACK
OMG, that is so sweet and sad at the same time. We want to give our children the world. Who doesn't? But your children in particular are exceptional kids and will thrive wherever they are. Giving all three the SAME opportunities is not necessarily as important as giving EQUAL opportunities. That can vary in form from child to child so don't be too heart broken for long. And you never know...
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about sending Jessica to highschool here? What was true a few years ago, is even more true today. A few years of free education can't hurt. That said, until Jess graduates from university, you'll always have 3 kids' education to think about
